Excursions Fuerteventura North

The range of organized excursions in the north of the Canary Island is quite extensive. A huge selection of different boat trips is available at the port in Corralejo: Fishing trips, island hopping, party boats, dolphin and whale watching, snorkeling and relaxing. All these activities can be done on the north coast of Fuerteventura. And also the minibus and jeep tours start in this area and take you to the center or the other end of the island. Quad or buggy tours will add some extra action. Things to See in the North of Fuerteventura

La Oliva

This small and historically interesting place is located almost in the middle between the east and the west coast. In the 17th century, members of the Spanish military leadership built a stately headquarter here. The Casa de los Coroneles is built in typical Spanish colonial style. Today it houses a museum and a historical archive. The Casa Mane cultural center hosts temporary exhibitions of talented Canarian artists. Noteworthy is the three-nave parish church Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria. Its huge bell tower is not centered but built on the left extreme.

Tindaya

At the foot of the nearly 400-meter-high Montaña de Tindaya, which the indigenous people have venerated as a sacred mountain, there is the town Tindaya. Its inhabitants are now dedicated to the production and sale of goat cheese. A stop in this quite place is well worth it, because you can try all kinds of local treats in the bars and restaurants.

Villaverde

Villaverde not only houses the oldest cave on the island but also something scary. The Cueva del Llano is about 600 meters long and measures between seven and ten meters in diameter. From the information center there are regular guided tours of the cave. Inside, you may encounter some very special spiders that only exist in this cave, the maiorerus randoi. They have no eyes because they are adapted to life in complete darkness.

The Weather in the North of Fuerteventura

The climate is generally pleasant throughout the year on the entire Canary Island. Temperatures range between 18 and 26 degrees Celsius. So that the vacation time is from January to December. However, there is a peculiarity in terms of weather in the north. The neighboring island Lanzarote captures the clouds carried by the northeast Passat with its mountains. Consequently, the north of Fuerteventura stays drier and warmer than the south. In addition, the wind is less strong in the area of Corralejo and the dunes, than in the rest of the island. However, the area around Morro Jable is excluded. There are around 3,000 hours of sunshine a year in the north.

The Best Beaches in the North of Fuerteventura

Playa los Lagos

In the north of El Cotillo you will find this beach of very fine and bright sand. The perfect beach for sea lovers. It enters very flat in the Atlantic, that is really calm here. Therefore, the beach is ideal for a swimming day with kids.

Playa Bajo Negro

Overlooking the adjacent dunes, this almost white sandy beach is also something special for the eye. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in the north of Fuerteventura. The waves are not so high and allow a good coexistence of water sportsmen and bathers. You can rent sun loungers from the surrounding hotels.

Playa Galera

The city beach of Corralejo is protected from the wind and low in surf. Perfect for the bathing pleasure of the whole family. The small island of Isla de Lobos in sight, you can spend a nice day swimming here. Nearby restaurants and bars offer drinks and food. You can also rent umbrellas and sunbeds here.

Playa del Medano

This white sandy beach is located directly between the Island Los Lobos and Correlejo. Surfers and kiters are an integral part of the picture because the conditions are excellent for them.
